Commonly asked questions-

What is a Perlino?
The lovely Perlino color is the result of the action of two creme genes on a bay horse, a "double buckskin."  Where one
creme gene on a bay produces a Buckskin, two of them create the Perlino! They also have Pinkish Skin and Blue eyes.
Socks, Stars, Stripes, Snips and other white markings, as well as dorsal stripes (if they have the dun factor) can all be
seen easily if they are present on the horse. Double dilutes can also come in tobiano and overo patterning, although very
rare.

Will my baby end up with blue eyes?
It is very unlikely. The Perlino has blue eyes because he is a double dilute. Unless you have a cremelo or Perlino foal
due to breeding to a palomino, buckskin, or smokey black mare, or if your mare has a blue-eyed gene that tends to be
passed on to most of its foals, the answer is no. A Perlino has blue eyes only because of the double dilute gene.
EZ has been DNA tested, for the cream gene. His results were as expected....CrCr...which means that he is a
perlino.

Below are some facts that I have come across in my research that might be helpful to mare owners that would like
to know what color their baby will be:

The cream dilution gene controls the amount of base color dilution of a horse's coat. This gene has a dosage effect
where a heterozygous (only one cream gene) cream dilution horse will have a lesser effect when compared to a
homozygous (double cream gene) cream dilution horse.

How to read this chart:
Look at the colors going down and find your mares' color. Example: if you have a Chestnut mare, your
color possibilities are as follows - 50% for a palomino, 37.50% for a buckskin, 12.50% for a smokey
black, and 0.00% for a Cremello, Perlino, or Smokey Cream.
